Apple made some big announcements in its “Hi, Speed” event. From its most awaited iPhone 12, it also unveiled a mini version of the HomePod speaker. Moreover, the company unveiled that its devices will support 5G wireless networks and introduced new features on its devices.
The iPhone 12 Comes with New Design and 5G
Apple’s iPhone 5G design looks similar to its earlier smartphone devices iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. The iPhone 12 has two rear cameras as its iPhone 11 while it has a standard 6.1-inch display. In total, Apple introduced four iPhone 12 versions which include iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The mini version comes with a 5.4-inch display whose introductory price starts at USD 699. Its standard version costs USD 799 while its Pro and Pro Max version comes at a price of USD 999 and USD 1099 respectively.
All the iPhone 12 line up comes with a “Ceramic shield’’ glass cover which Apple built in partnership with Corning. According to the company, the glass cover can survive a long fall which makes it more durable. Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro models have added features such as 3D room scanning and fast low-light focusing. Each of the iPhone models has an A14 Bionic chip which has already been integrated into the new iPad Air announced last month. The chip uses five-nanometer process technology which has not been utilized in its earlier chips.
Apple Has Reintroduced MegaSafe Product Line
The tech company has reintroduced MegaSafe charging for its iPhone 12 product line. Earlier, MegaSafe was only confined to its Mac models. The new MegaSafe product has a leather magnetic wallet, attached to the back of the models. This product will make it easier to connect the iPhone 12 models to the wireless chargers. In addition to this, it has also announced the launch of MegaSafe Duo charger which will allow the iPhone and an Apple Watch to get charged together.
No Power Adapter and Earphones in the iPhone Box
Apple issued in a statement that there will no power cord and earphones in the iPhone box. The company said that the removal of two products in the box will reduce its carbon footprint. They added that they are not only eliminating the afore-mentioned components in the latest iPhone boxes but across all the iPhone product range.
“Across the iPhone family, we’re removing the power adapter and EarPods that often go unused, but including the fast-charging USB-C to Lightning cable that most people need. That shrinks packaging and more boxes per shipment mean fewer shipments overall. We’re also transitioning our manufacturing partners to renewable energy. Altogether, this eliminates over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually…”
Thriving Hard to Capture Market in Smart Speaker Battle
Global competitors such as Amazon and Google are thriving to capture the smart speaker market. Meanwhile, Apple had launched Homepod for USD 299 which didn’t entice customers to the expectation. Therefore, the company had launched the mini version which has emits 360° acoustic waves for USD 100. The Apple Homepod Mini supports other music streaming services which was not possible in its Homepod model.
